Eucharistic Adoration for Children

“Let the children of the world gather around the tabernacles of the world for the people of the world”

In a world where children are bombarded with all sorts of harmful images and messages, it is difficult for them to recognise God’s presence and to discover His infinite love for them.

Children love to pray. They pray quite naturally because God is very real for them and very close to them. Some teachers use short periods of Eucharistic Adoration as a central part of the children’s preparation for First Holy Communion.

During this period of Adoration the children gaze at Jesus, pray to Him, sing songs, experience Jesus. They come to realise that what the teacher was telling them about the Real Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is true.

Introduction

Children’s Eucharistic Adoration is where young children gather in an atmosphere of prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament. It is quite time for them as we live in an extremely busy and noisy world. It’s a time for silence, prayer, music, children’s Bible stories or related religious material, sharing and reflection and all this is done in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.

The programme is relatively new to Ireland and children are finding it peaceful and reflective. They say “we have time to think” and “we like being in prayer with each other”.

Aims

This programme can aid with the existing primary school religious curriculum for sacramental classes e.g. first Holy Communion and confirmation classes. The aim is to create an awareness of the true presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. This shows the children they can spend time adoring Jesus even before they make their Holy Communion and then it’s not so daunting when the time actually comes. We explain how the children receive Jesus is a special way through the Eucharist.

Programme Options

(to be agreed with local parish priest)
